San Diego, part II: the beach and the battalion

On Saturday we took it easy. We started the day going out to breakfast. They we headed to the beach. It was really busy. But we still had fun, unfortunately, even though I lathered on the sunscreen we still left with some burns. This kids loved digging in the sand. They tried to bury Emma, but this is about as good as it got with our little shovels. I think we took half the beach back to the car with us.

Emma and Ben loved the water. They ventured in by themselves at first. Scot had to drive around for 45 minutes trying to find a parking spot. So the kids were really glad when he came and helped them jump the big waves. Spencer tried the water once and wouldn't go back, Lucy wouldn't go anywhere near it. But that is not unusual for her.

Spencer mostly wanted to just sit and eat his sand covered snacks. Yummy.

Later we went to Old Town and visited Scot's parents at the Mormon Battalion Visitors Center. Then we walked around and went to the fun candy shop and had great Mexican food.

Sunday, after church, we went and did a tour of the battalion.
We love having Scot's parents take us on the tour. The kids love the dress up part. At first they were just dressing up Ben and Lucy but Spencer really wanted to help too. He looked so cute with those great big things on his little body. All my kids love the end of the tour where they can pan for "gold". Spencer loves to pump the water. He is so hilarious. We love being able to visit and share in this mission experience with Scot's parents. It is such an awesome experience for all of us, but especially them.
That night we drove up to Anaheim. There was a ton of traffic! It took us an extra hour to get there. And there was an accident right next to us. It put both Scot and I a little on edge for the drive. But we made it and our girls fell into an exhausted sleep hand in hand. It was so cute.

Tomorrow we started Disneyland bright and early....
